What the stove oven heating repair
involves.

Stove oven not heating repair is for the oven below the burners. On an electric oven the bake element on the floor and the broil element on the ceiling do the heating, and a temperature sensor on the back wall tells the controls when to switch them. On a gas oven a glowing igniter must reach full heat before the safety valve lets gas into the oven burner, so a tired igniter leaves the oven cold while the burners on top work fine. Cakes that burn on the bottom, a preheat that takes forever or an oven twenty-five degrees off all trace back to these few parts. The technician measures the element, the igniter or the sensor, replaces the one that failed and checks the temperature with a thermometer before leaving.

How the visit goes

Stove oven heating repair,
step by step.

Hand back an oven that preheats in its normal time and holds the temperature you set, checked with a thermometer.

01

Run the oven on bake and on broil, and watch how long it takes to heat and whether each part glows or lights.

02

Measure the bake and broil elements, or watch the gas oven igniter and valve through a full lighting cycle.

03

Test the temperature sensor against its chart and check the wiring and the connection at the back of the oven.

04

Replace the element, igniter, valve or sensor that failed, fitted and sealed the way the maker designed it.

6 causes, cheapest first

Before you call

Tell us this when you book

  1. Whether the oven stays cold, heats slowly, or runs too hot or too cool
  2. Whether the oven is gas or electric, and whether the broiler still works
  3. What you saw: a flash, a glow that never lights the gas, or a code
  4. How far off the temperature is if you have checked it with a thermometer

It also answers

Low to moderate,
on the site's scale.

A bake or broil element and a temperature sensor are modest parts fitted from inside the oven. A gas oven igniter sits in the middle, and a gas safety valve comes out higher.

All service areas

Tampa BayFL · 31 areas

Tampa Bay owners notice a stove's oven failing when the holiday roast takes hours, and on most electric stoves there the bake element has burned through, a part replaced from inside the oven without pulling the stove out.

OrlandoFL · 30 areas

In Orlando rentals the oven below the stovetop may go unused for weeks until a guest bakes, and only then does a dead bake or broil element show, so the repair is fitted in between stays.

Miami / South FloridaFL · 47 areas

South Florida houses closed for months come back to ovens that heat slowly or not at all, and a sensor or element worn by the damp is usually the reason, replaced so the oven reaches its heat again.

New York MetroNY · 75 areas

New Yorkers lean on the oven of an apartment gas stove for every holiday, and one that heats weakly most often has a tired igniter, while a gas smell sends everyone out of the apartment to phone the utility from the street.

HoustonTX · 36 areas

Houston ovens bake through long, humid summers, and an oven whose temperature has drifted after years of use often needs its sensor or thermostat replaced, which brings it back to the heat the owner selects.

ChicagoIL · 50 areas

Chicagoland stoves bake from October to New Year's, and an oven that burns cookies on the bottom and leaves them pale on top usually has one element or igniter that quit, fixed before the holiday baking starts.

Los AngelesCA · 95 areas

Los Angeles bungalow stoves may still regulate their ovens with mechanical thermostats that drift over decades, and recalibrating or replacing that thermostat keeps a vintage stove baking at the heat its owner sets.

San DiegoCA · 31 areas

San Diego households moving in often discover that the oven of the stove that came with the house never gets hot enough, and the repair traces it to a bake element, igniter or sensor before anyone shops for a new stove.

San Francisco Bay AreaCA · 74 areas

Bay Area owners of heritage and European stoves have ovens with heating parts of their own design, so oven repair there is planned around the maker's parts for that model, ordered by serial number before the visit.

Questions about
the stove oven heating repair.

The burners on top work but the oven under them stays cold. How can that be?
The two halves of a stove heat separately. On a gas stove the oven has its own igniter and valve, and a weak igniter can glow without ever opening the gas. On an electric stove the bake element can fail while every coil on top keeps working.
Is it safe to use the oven if I saw a flash from the bottom element?
No. A bright flash and a burned spot on the element mean it has shorted. Turn the oven off, let it cool, and do not use bake until the element is replaced. If there is smoke or sparking from the wiring, switch the stove off at the breaker if that can be done safely.
Can I use the stove's oven to keep the kitchen warm in a cold snap?
No. An open oven is not built to heat a room, and on a gas stove it can raise the level of carbon monoxide in the house. Keep the oven door closed and use a heater made for the purpose.
My baking comes out different since we moved. Is the oven off?
Possibly, and moving a stove can loosen a sensor connection or a gas setting. Put an oven thermometer on the middle rack, set the oven to 350 and check it after twenty minutes. Many ovens let you adjust the temperature a few degrees from the settings menu; a bigger gap needs a visit.
