Whirlpool stoves,
specifically.

Whirlpool sells gas, electric and induction stoves, freestanding and slide-in, and its help site keeps a page for well over a hundred display codes. Most pages give the same one-minute breaker reset before anything else, which is worth trying before a visit.

The Whirlpool lineup

What is particular
to Whirlpool.

Whirlpool sells freestanding and slide-in gas and electric stoves and slide-in induction models. The model number tells us which code list and which parts apply.

Grates that can set off a code

On Whirlpool gas stoves, F2 E1 has a surprising first check: a grate put back in the wrong spot can wobble, and Whirlpool says swapping it and cycling power can clear the code. After washing the grates, put them back where they came from.

A stovetop that shuts itself off

Whirlpool glass stovetops cut power to an area that overheats and show C81, C82 or C83. It usually comes back after five minutes of cooling, so a pan that boiled dry is the first thing to look at.

A new stove stuck in demo mode

Whirlpool stoves have a showroom demo mode where the controls light up but the oven does not heat. A brand-new stove that never warms up is worth checking for it.

One reset for most codes

Most Whirlpool code pages start with the same step: breaker off for one minute, back on, then watch the oven for a minute. If the code does not return, you may not need a visit.

Parts

Whirlpool parts are widely stocked because the same parts are used across the Whirlpool family. Elements, igniters, sensors and latches are usually available quickly.

Repair or replace

Most Whirlpool repairs, such as an element, igniter, sensor or latch, cost far less than a new stove. A failed control board on an older basic model is the main case worth weighing.

Questions about
Whirlpool stoves.

Why did my Whirlpool show a code after I cleaned the grates?
F2 E1 can appear when a grate goes back in the wrong spot. Rock each grate; if one wobbles, swap them and cycle power.
My Whirlpool glass top shut off and shows C81. What happened?
A cooking area overheated and Whirlpool's shutoff kicked in. Wait five minutes and it should work again.
Why does my new Whirlpool oven not heat at all?
It may be in demo mode, which lets the controls work without heating. Turn demo mode off in the settings.
Should I try a reset before booking a Whirlpool repair?
Yes. Whirlpool's pages start with a one-minute breaker reset; if the code does not return, you may not need a visit.
