What the stove igniter and spark switch repair
involves.
Stove igniter repair covers the parts that make the ticking sound: the small white ceramic electrode next to each burner, the switch on each knob's valve stem that tells the stove to spark, and the module that makes the spark for all of them. When a burner ticks but never catches, the electrode is often wet, dirty, cracked or too far from the burner. When the ticking will not stop, a spark switch is usually stuck, most often after a spill ran down behind a knob. The technician dries and cleans first, then tests each switch and the module and changes the one that failed. The oven's own igniter is a different part, covered under oven heating repair.

All service areasTampa BayFL · 31 areas
Tampa Bay's damp air lets moisture sit in a gas stove's spark switches after mopping or a steamy boil, and a stove that clicks by itself with every knob off is fixed by drying the switches or replacing the one that stays shorted.
OrlandoFL · 30 areas
A gas stove that clicks but never lights is a common guest report in Orlando rentals, often after knobs were wiped wet, and an igniter or spark switch replaced between stays ends the repeat calls from the property manager.
Miami / South FloridaFL · 47 areas
In South Florida houses near the bay, the spark switch behind each gas knob picks up salt and damp until the stove starts clicking on its own, often at night, and the repair replaces the stuck switch or its harness rather than every igniter.
New York MetroNY · 75 areas
New York apartment stoves are wiped down after every meal, and water running behind the knobs into the spark switches is the usual reason an older gas stove starts clicking and will not stop, a repair made with the stove unplugged and its gas closed.
HoustonTX · 36 areas
After a Houston outage an older gas stove's oven may take minutes to light because its glow igniter has weakened, something many owners first notice once the power is back, and the repair is a new oven igniter.
ChicagoIL · 50 areas
In Chicagoland the oven igniter on a gas stove works hardest through the long baking season, and an oven that is slower to catch every week as Thanksgiving nears usually needs that igniter replaced before the big day.
Los AngelesCA · 95 areas
Some Los Angeles vintage gas stoves still light from a standing pilot, and when a pilot keeps going out, or a newer stove's spark system fails, the repair makes lighting reliable again while keeping an old stove's original parts where it can.
San DiegoCA · 31 areas
The morning marine layer leaves dew inside the spark leads of coastal San Diego stoves, and a stove whose burners click unevenly on foggy mornings but light fine in the afternoon is showing a lead or switch on its way out.
San Francisco Bay AreaCA · 74 areas
Older Bay Area rental flats often keep the building's gas stove for decades, and when its spark stops working tenants fall back on matches; replacing the igniter or switch makes lighting safe again and is usually the landlord's call.
