GE stove
showing LOC

LOC on a GE stove means someone turned on Child Lockout, the setting that stops the oven from being switched on by accident.

Book a visit

Three short steps, about a minute.

or call (844) 415-7620

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from GE's own guidance for LOC on its stoves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Look up the lockout steps for your model in the owner's manual; on many GE controls you press and hold one or two pads for a few seconds.

02

Try the oven again once LOC is gone.

03

If LOC will not clear with the manual's steps, reset the breaker, and book a visit only if the lock still will not release.

Cleared?

The stove is working again and no part was needed. If the same letters come back while a burner or the oven is on, or the stove switches itself off again in the middle of dinner, book it as a new problem.

What not to do

LOC is not an error in the electronics. It is a feature someone switched on, often by leaning on the panel or while cleaning it.

What you may
notice with it.

The stove problems LOC tends to arrive with. Answer these at the stove before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Something the stove was switched into, often by accident, rather than something that broke: a control lock pressed while wiping the panel, a Sabbath setting, a showroom demo mode that lights the display and heats nothing, a reminder that a spot on the stovetop is still hot. No part is worn out, and the stove's own keys put it right.

In GE's own words

Child Lockout is a feature on many wall oven, free-standing range and slide-in range models that prevents the oven from being turned on accidentally.

Questions
about LOC.

Can I clear LOC myself?
Look up the lockout steps for your model in the owner's manual; on many GE controls you press and hold one or two pads for a few seconds.
How did LOC turn on by itself on my GE stove?
The lockout is usually set by holding certain pads for a few seconds, which can happen while wiping the panel. It stays on until someone turns it off.
Does LOC on a GE also lock the burners?
GE describes the lockout as stopping the oven from being turned on. Knob-operated burners are not part of the oven control on most models.
Is LOC a good idea in a house with small children?
That is what it is for. Turn it on when the stove is not in use and off before you cook.

Still showing LOC?

Book with the code written exactly as the stove shows it, the full model number, and whether you notice any smell of gas or hot wiring — when there is a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
