What F5
actually means.
F5 is GE's signal that the electronic control, the board that runs the oven, has found a problem inside itself. GE says that when F5 appears the control usually has to be replaced.

What to do when F5 shows on the stoveKind of codeControl board and power
The main board failed its own start-up check, lost contact with the display, or saw the supply voltage sag too low, often after a storm, a power outage or a spill that ran down behind the panel. The breaker, the cord and the outlet are ruled out before a board is replaced. A stove that sparks, smells of hot wiring or keeps heating while this code shows is switched off at the breaker first.
Usually leads toControl board and display repair
Stoves with a blank or flashing display, touch keys that do not answer, codes that keep returning or a stove that will not turn on, traced to the board, the keypad or the power to them.
Shows up asStove Won't Turn On
Nothing happens anywhere on the stove: no burner heats, the oven stays cold, the clock and lights are dark, or the display lights up but nothing will start.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from GE's own guidance for F5 on its stoves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Press Cancel/Off and note what the oven was doing when F5 appeared.
Switch the stove off at the breaker, wait a minute or two, then switch it back on.
If F5 shows again, keep the breaker off except for short burner use and book a visit.
Still there?
It usually turns into control board and display repair. Book with the code and the model number.
What not to do
F5 is not a keypad or door code. The pads and the lock may work normally; it is the brain behind them that has flagged itself.
What you may
notice with it.
The stove problems F5 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the stove before anyone is booked.
