What E
actually means.
ILVE's manual lists a plain E on an induction zone display as an external error without saying more. Elsewhere in the same manual, ILVE explains that the top turns itself off if it senses too much heat or trouble with the power supply.

What to do when E shows on the stoveKind of codeStovetop elements
A burner on an electric or induction stovetop did not heat the way the knob or key asked, heated with nothing set, or ran hotter than the setting. The pan, a lock left on and the switch behind the knob are checked before the element under the glass, its limiter or an induction board is changed. If a burner keeps heating after it has been switched off, turn the stove's breaker off before anything else.
Usually leads toGlass stovetop repair
Smooth glass stovetops on electric and induction stoves with a cold circle, a cracked or chipped top, or a hot-surface light that stays on, repaired under the glass or with a new top.
Shows up asStove Error Code
The stove shows letters and numbers, a flashing symbol or a short message, beeps, and the oven or a burner stops or will not start.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from ILVE's own guidance for E on its stoves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Turn the zone off and give the glass time to cool.
Think back: did the lights dim or other appliances flicker when E appeared?
If E comes back once the top is cool, book a visit and mention what you noticed.
What not to do
A plain E is not the same as the numbered codes such as E9 or E47. ILVE calls it external, which often means heat or supply, not a failed board.
What you may
notice with it.
The stove problems E tends to arrive with. Answer these at the stove before anyone is booked.
