What ES
actually means.
On some Maytag stoves, Energy Save puts the display and clock to sleep. After five idle minutes the display shows ES and On twice, then goes blank until you press a key or open the door. ES can look like E5.

Something the stove was switched into, often by accident, rather than something that broke: a control lock pressed while wiping the panel, a Sabbath setting, a showroom demo mode that lights the display and heats nothing, a reminder that a spot on the stovetop is still hot. No part is worn out, and the stove's own keys put it right.

Before you book,

Each step comes from Maytag's own guidance for ES on its stoves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Press Bake or Broil, or open the oven door, to wake the display.
To turn Energy Save off, press and hold CLOCK for ten seconds until ES and Off show.
If the display stays blank after that, reset power and book a visit if it does not return.
Cleared?
The stove is working again and no part was needed. If the same letters come back while a burner or the oven is on, or the stove switches itself off again in the middle of dinner, book it as a new problem.
