What E1
actually means.
E1 tells you the oven began heating but warmed far more slowly than the control expected. Kenmore does not name a part, so the heating side of the oven is tested on the visit.

What to do when E1 shows on the stoveKind of codeOven heating
The oven part of the stove was set to bake or broil and did not warm the way the controls expected, or took far too long to get there. On an electric stove a bake or broil element that has burned through is the everyday reason; on a gas stove the oven igniter and the valve it opens are looked at first. The wiring and the relay on the board are checked before the board itself is blamed.
Usually leads toStove oven heating repair
The oven part of a stove that stays cold, heats slowly or bakes too hot or too cool, fixed at the bake and broil elements, the oven igniter, the gas valve or the temperature sensor.

What not to do
E1 is not a sensor failure. The control can read the temperature; it is the heat that is not climbing fast enough.

In Kenmore's own words
After the oven starts to heat up, the temperature rises very slowly.
