What Lake County does
to a stove.
Where stoves sit in Lake County: older housing stock, on a lake, mixed housing.
All of ChicagoOlder housing stock
Buyers of an older house often inherit the stove that came with it and ask one thing first: is it worth keeping? A visit answers by lighting every burner, heating the oven and looking at the gas connector before any money goes to a new stove.
On a lake
Many lake cottages keep an older stove that came with the house, and new buyers often ask whether it is worth keeping; the answer rests on how the burners and the oven perform and whether the maker still supplies that stove.
Mixed housing
Stoves bought secondhand or brought from a previous home turn up often on mixed streets, and one that arrived without its anti-tip bracket, its burner caps or its manual is checked for all three when it is serviced.
