How do I get it to release? Let the stove cool completely, which can take an hour or more. The lock stays shut until the oven is cool. If it still will not release, switch the stove off at the breaker for a minute and back on. If it stays locked, do not pry the door; a visit can release the lock without breaking it. ### Why does my oven door fall open with a bang? The hinge springs are worn or one hinge has broken, so nothing is holding the door's weight. It is a quick repair, and both hinges are usually replaced so the door sits level.
