Rebuilt two-story houses where a new stove went in with the teardown, and families who cook on it every night want it working again the same evening something goes wrong. ## What West University does to a stove. West University Place incorporated in part because Houston was reluctant to extend power lines that far from the city center. The city drains through the Poor Farm Ditch, named for the Harris County poor farm that once owned it, into Brays Bayou. On a map the city's outline resembles a little house, with a chimney on its west side and a door where it wraps around the separate city of Southside Place. West University Place eventually ran out of available lots, and its construction peaked. Also known as West University Place. [All of Houston](https://stoverepair.center/locations/houston/) ### Family houses In a family house the stove is where children first learn to cook, so a knob that turns on with a light touch, or an oven door that gets too hot to hold, is worth a visit, and knob covers and the oven lock are shown to the parents. ### Mixed housing Older houses on these streets may still feed a gas stove through rigid pipe rather than a flexible connector, which makes pulling it out harder, so the move is planned with the gas off and the connection brought up to current practice. ### Small kitchens In a tight kitchen the gap beside the stove collects crumbs, grease and the odd dropped spoon, so when the stove must be pulled for a repair it is pulled once, gets cleaned behind and goes back square to the counter. ## A visit in West University.
