# Stove repair in Kingwood.

Houston annexed parts of what became Kingwood in the 1960s but de-annexed them by the late 1970s.

## What Kingwood does to a stove.

Before the 1996 annexation, 13 municipal utility districts provided Kingwood's utility services.

After Kingwood residents lobbied, the Texas Legislature amended the state's annexation law in 1999, though the changes did not undo Kingwood's own annexation.

Lake Houston, the reservoir on the San Jacinto River beside Kingwood, was created in 1953 when Houston built a dam to replace Sheldon Lake as its main water source.

### Newer developments

In a new house the stove was hooked up by the builder's crew on a tight schedule, and a stove that rocks forward when the oven door is pulled, or sits crooked in its gap, gets its bracket and feet set properly.

### Family houses

In a family house the stove is where children first learn to cook, so a knob that turns on with a light touch, or an oven door that gets too hot to hold, is worth a visit, and knob covers and the oven lock are shown to the parents.

### Holiday cooking

Oversized pots on a crowded stovetop overhang the knobs, and the heat rolling off them can soften plastic knobs and wear their stems, so a knob that slips on its shaft after a party is a common and simple replacement.
