F1 is one of four GE codes that point at the keypanel, the membrane of touch pads you use to set the oven. The control has stopped trusting what the pads report, and GE says the keypanel frequently needs replacing. GE stove display What to do when F1 shows on the stove ### Kind of code Knobs, keys and display A key on the panel was held down too long, reported a press nobody made, or stopped answering; or a knob's switch told the stove it was on when it was off. Water, a spill or grease worked in behind a knob is ruled out first, then the switch, the key panel and the cable to the board. If a burner keeps heating while the keys or knobs do nothing, switch the stove off at the breaker. ### Usually leads to Knob and switch replacement Stove knobs that are cracked, loose or spin in place, and the switches behind them that leave a burner stuck on high or dead, replaced at the knob, the stem or the switch. ### Shows up as Stove Display Blank or Flashing The clock and display on the stove have gone dark, or they flash the time, a word or a string of characters and ignore the keys you press. ### Make GE GE Appliances, owned by Haier, makes some of the most common stoves in American kitchens. ### Source GE Appliances support: oven error and function code list GE ranges and stoves with an electronic oven control. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Press Cancel/Off and give the oven a few minutes with nothing set. 02 Turn the stove off at the breaker for a minute or two, then back on, and see whether the pads answer. 03 If F1 comes back, leave the breaker off between uses and book a visit; the burners can still be used with the breaker on for short spells. ### Still there? Press Cancel/Off and give the oven a few minutes with nothing set. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why did my GE stove show F1 right after I wiped the control panel? Water or cleaner that seeps under the edge of a keypanel can make pads read as pressed. Let the panel dry fully, reset the breaker, and if F1 stays, the keypanel itself is the likely part. ### Can a GE stove with F1 still cook dinner on the burners? Yes. GE allows the breaker back on long enough to cook on the surface units, then off again until the keypanel is looked at. ### Does F1 on a GE stove mean the whole control board is bad? Not usually.
